Day 0/1 – Warm-up for the Marathon

Markus Hoff-Holtmanns/ July 12, 2018/ Uncategorized

I’m finally on the road! The first leg took me from my workplace in Ruoholahti, Helsinki to the Viking Line terminal in Turku. Easy, about 2 hours give or take, and then waiting for the ferry to Stockholm. But my back, butt and shoulders were already hurting after such a short trip.

So I actually tried to go to sleep early despite England and Croatia going to overtime, but if you ever tried sleeping in a small inside cabin on one of these ferries, you might have an idea of what came next. The air conditioning was too loud and not cool enough, and I didn’t want to stuff my ears lest I miss my alarm in the morning. Because the ferry was too arrive 6:30 in Stockholm. So sleep was out of reach, the best I had was light dozing. Alcohol might have helped, but I need to drive again to early. I already dreaded the roughly 1000km I was planning to ride the next day…
